Juneteenth Flag
Today is Juneteenth, commemorating the day enslaved people in Galveston, TX learned of their freedom two and a half years after the emancipation proclamation on June 19, 1865. The center star represents the lone star state of Texas. The surrounding Nova or "New Star" represents a new beginning for all. The horizontal arch represents a new horizon and beginning for black people. Red representing the blood shed on the ground by African American slaves.
